Totally Smokin’ - with Perth songbird Alix Jordan in the lead - captures the essence of Newton-John, from the early 1970s with songs like Please Mr Please and Have You Ever Been Mellow, through to the Grease and Xanadu soundtracks and the image-shattering Totally Hot and Physical albums.
Jordan has a strong and impressive voice and a vocal echo that is not too dissimilar to Newton-John’s. While she dons the era-appropriate costumes, Jordan does not try to mimic Newton-John. There is a clear appreciation and respect for her idol and her body of work over several decades.
The two-man, two-woman backing singers also had fine voices. Young Michael MacCuish was a revelation and it was impossible not to find Cladia Van Zeller’s enthusiasm infectious. ...
The four-piece band performed without a blemish. They sounded great and the balance was perfect. It would be a mistake to ... overlook this 100-minute, song-crammed show. It runs until Thursday, so grab a ticket."

“I have known Alix for 5 years during which time she has been employed by me as a singer and front person for 2 bands.
Both bands performed a mixture of musical styles in both public and private gigs and in a variety of formats. Both bands relied absolutely on Alix’s ability to professionally engage with an audience and to present and deliver songs from various era’s – 1920’s through to the 1990’s – no easy feat. In all regards Alix was a great success.
In Carmen Miranda’s Love Children Alix also had the uncanny ability to be able to combine dance and costume changes to deliver “in character” performances and to engage an audience in doing so.
